Daniel Mellem

Daniel Mellem, born in 1987, lives in Hamburg. He studied physics in Hamburg and London and completed his doctorate on mitochondrial networks before devoting himself to working on his first novel project at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig. He was a scholarship holder at the Jürgen Ponto Foundation's writing workshop and has published in the Hamburger Ziegel, among other publications. For the manuscript of Die Erfindung des Countdowns he received the Retzhof Prize for Young Literature in 2017 and the Hamburg Prize for Literature in 2018. After its publication, the novel was nominated for the Harbour Front Debut Prize in 2020.
