Ruth Olshan
Ruth Olshan, born in 1970, is of Ukrainian-Lithuanian origin, born in Moscow and grew up in Israel and Berlin. Today she lives in
Germany and works as a director and writer. She studied
Directing and Film Production in Leeds (UK) and Cologne. She
teaches at universities in Germany and abroad.
After realizing several award-winning short films,
she directed several feature films and documentaries.
Her first book All die schönen Dinge was published by Oetinger Verlag as well as her short story Sockenkonferenz. The children's book Die Sache mit der Lieben und den Flügeln was published by Lübbe Verlag. In addition Ruth Olshan writes screenplays (cinema, TV, series, e.g. Aufbruch in die Freiheit, Himbeeren mit Senf, Wolfswinkel). She has received numerous awards and grants, such as the Sir Richard Attenborough Prize, the Prize for Women Artists in
North Rhine-Westphalia and the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Prize,
the German Television Award and the Golden Camera as best
film. Her films have been shown at international festivals.
