Verena Sarah Diehl
Sarah Diehl is an author and activist living in Berlin. She feels just as at home in politics as she does in literature and tries to combine theory and practice. Her novel Eskimo Limon 9 was published by Atrium Verlag in 2012 and her bestselling polemic Die Uhr, die nicht tickt by Arche Literatur Verlag in 2014. Her latest non-fiction book Die Freiheit, allein zu sein. Eine Ermutigung was published in 2022 and became a press and book trade success.
Sarah Diehl is always driven by the question of how women's self-confidence and self-determination are undermined in our society; she is one of the most established voices on the subject in the German-speaking media landscape. She also works on the topic of reproductive rights in an international context and made an award-winning documentary film: Abortion Democracy: Poland/South Africa. In 2014, she founded the organisation Ciocia Basia, which supports women in obtaining safe abortions. Together with therapist Anna Schmutte, she has been offering the seminar Do I want children? and with cultural scientist Gunda Windmüller, she organises the Freischwimmerinnen seminar for childfree single women since 2024.
